Block Matching

This educational activity is super easy, fun, and it's pretty likely you'll have all the materials on hand! I love this activity because it fosters a variety of skills such as letter recognition, name recognition, focus and attention, organization, fine motor skills, and communication.

You will need:

  • Megabloks or legos

  • Tape

  • Sharpie or marker

Instructions:

  1. Grab a long megablok with 3 or 4 peaks (or more if you want to do your child's name and it has more than 4 letters), and stick a strip of tape across it lengthwise. Write the child's name or alphabet letters, lining up with each peak.

  2. Grab a bunch of single blocks and stick a strip of tape to each. Write the letters of your child's name.

  3. Lay out all the blocks and have your child match the letters and stick the single block above its corresponding letter.

Activity notes:

  • If you're wanting to do capital and lowercase letter matching, I wrote the lowercase letters on the long block and the capital letters on the single blocks. But you can do this vice versa of course!

  • If your child's name is longer than the available peaks, I would just lay the longer blocks side by side or connect them at the bottom with another block.

  • This game can be used to help your child learn a variety of other skills, such as numbers, colors, shapes, etc. Just tweak what you write on the tape and get creative!

  • Repeat this activity and have fun with your child! My daughter wanted to do this one again and again.

Pin it for later!
