Cinnamon Salt Dough Ornaments

Making ornaments is one of my favorite activities to do with my kids during this time of year! I love that it doubles as an activity and a keepsake. This version also makes your house smell INCREDIBLE, which is a total plus! Let us know in the comments if you try it out and how it goes for you!

What You'll Need:

  • Cinnamon Salt Dough (so many recipes on Pinterest to choose from!)

  • Paint

  • Paint brushes

  • Christmas cookie cutters

  • Twine or string

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough.

  2. Roll out the dough.

  3. Let your kiddos cut out their desired shapes.

  4. Use a dowel (or something of similar size) to poke a hole in your ornaments where you'd like to put the string through.

  5. Let the dough dry! (Depending on how thick you do them, this could take a while. We let ours dry out overnight.)

  6. After the dough is dried out, pull out the paint. We decided to use green and red to make it more festive.

  7. Let your kiddos paint their ornaments however they want!

  8. After the paint dries, tie your string, write your kids' names and the year on the back, and hang them up on the tree!

Activity Notes:

  • This is the perfect activity to practice letters! Let your kids cut out and paint the letters in their name, the letters in "Christmas", etc. You can talk about the sounds the letters make and words that start with those letters while your kids are painting them!

  • When I let my kids paint, I always put a garbage bag down on the table and put the paint on a paper plate. It's the easiest way to clean up for us!

  • We did a few ornaments where I cut out a small circle, and we did a thumbprint inside. Really cute and easy to do, and makes such a fun keepsake.
