Easy Name Recognition Activity
Today we've got a fun, easy activity to help your preschooler learn to recognize and spell their name! If your child is struggling to learn their name (or letters in general), but LOVES to play matching games, this might be a great activity for them! Plus, it's one that can be put together at the last minute, and you're likely to have all the materials on hand!
You will need:
White paper
Colored paper
Markers/pens
Scissors
Glue
Styrofoam or paper cups
Instructions:
Take one of the cups and place it on one of the colored sheets of paper (with the top rim facing down).
Trace the rim of the cup, creating a circle on the colored paper.
Cut out the circle.
Repeat with the other colored sheets of paper until you have enough circles for each letter in your child's name.
Next, using a pen or marker, write each letter of your child's name on its own circle.
Now write those same letters on the bottom of each cup.
Glue the circles to the white sheet of paper--spelling out your preschooler's name.
Hooray! The game is now ready to play! Have your child match each letter on the cups to the corresponding letter on the circles. They will line up perfectly, and your child will have fun covering up all the colored circles!
Activity notes:
You can spread out the cups so that all the letters are visible, or stack them up so that the next letter they match is a surprise. If your child is loving the game, keep repeating it--changing it up each time by scrambling the letters and having them match them in different orders.
If you have enough cups and paper, try this activity with the entire alphabet!
