Our Favorite Educational Shows for Preschoolers

Can you believe that spring break is right around the corner? That week off of school is a great time schedule a family trip, or get out and explore as the weather starts to warm back up, or visit some activities in your town that you haven’t gotten to yet (we love the trampoline park and children’s museum in our city!)

But let’s be real: its fairly likely that at some point during the break, your child will get some screen time. Screen time can be a great tool to help you child relax after a long day or entertain them while you get your own tasks done. We’ve gathered some of our favorite education shows for preschoolers to share with you today! That way, even if they’re watching a screen, you can feel good about them learning something at the same time!

The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) recommends 1 hour of screen time per weekday for children between the ages of 2 to 5 (check out their recommendations here!).

We also love to look for shows that are low stimulating. This means that the show is slow-paced with natural colors. The scenes change slowly and there is no flashing or loud noises. These shows are specifically designed to offer a calmer and more soothing viewing experience for young brains. So if you are letting your child watch a show, you want it to be something worthwhile. We’ve gathered a few of our favorites below! Happy watching!

Bluey

I’m sure everyone is familiar with Bluey at this point. It’s a favorite, for good reason! Bluey is so great for teaching children imaginative play and social skills. And its short episodes are just right for little learners.

If You Give A Mouse a Cookie

Based on the original books by Laura Joffe Numeroff, this darling show follows Mouse, Dog, Pig, Cat, and Moose in their adventures.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

This is a great show to work on social and emotional skills for preschoolers. It is made specifically with them in mind!

Sid the Science Kid

This is such a fun science show for preschoolers! Sid models the scientific method and how to be a good friend.

Ask the Story Bots

Don’t worry, the Story Bots are here to answer all of your child’s burning questions! They have episodes about a variety of animals, how you catch a cold, planets, dinosaurs, DNA, colors, and the list goes on.

Dino Dana

Follow Dana and her dino experiments to learn even more about every preschoolers’ favorite topic: dinosaurs, of course!

Wild Kratts

Kris and Martin Kratt go adventuring to learn more about animals and save them from some bad guys! My kids love this show, and I love that they’re learning so much about nature.

Sesame Street

Obviously, this show needs no introduction. It’s been a beloved part of so many people’s childhoods, and continues to be a great show for preschoolers today.

Tumble Leaf

Tumble Leaf is one of my all-time favorite preschooler shows. The animation is beautiful, and the storylines are so sweet.

Curious George

Another classic, this TV series does not disappoint. You’ll love watching the adventures of The Man in the Yellow Hat and his pet monkey, George.
