Puzzle Search

I feel like if you're a parent of toddlers, more than likely, you have multiple peg puzzles around the house. You know that ones I'm talking about- the chunky ones with little handles that the kids have to put in the right spot! Even the high quality versions of these peg puzzles are really affordable. They make great birthday/Christmas presents! I love when my kids get presents that inspire learning! Puzzles are so good for their little growing brains, and this activity takes it one step further.

What You'll Need:

  • At least one peg puzzle (the more the merrier!)

  • A large container

  • Dried beans

Instructions:

  1. Get your large container and fill it with the dried beans.

  2. Get the puzzle pieces and dump them in there. Mix them up and bury them!

  3. Put the part of the puzzle that the pieces go into where your child can see them.

  4. Have them dig, find the puzzle pieces, and figure out where they go!

Activity Notes:

  • If you don't have dried beans, use whatever you have! Dried rice, dried wheat, oats, or even dried pasta would all work great.

  • Make sure that there are enough beans in there to cover up the puzzle pieces. This would be a great time to use up any expired food storage you might have!

  • If you have older kiddos, this would totally work with normal puzzles too. You could have them sort the pieces into the correct puzzle boxes and then complete the puzzle.
