It's so exciting when your child makes the connection between the sounds the letters make and blending them together! We recently learned that our preschooler can do this through doing this activity. Let us know if you try it out and how it goes with your child!

What You'll Need:

Bananagrams Game (if you don't have this you can use scrabble tiles or any other letter tiles!)

Instructions:

Dump out your word tiles on a hard surface.
Spell out simple words and let your child sound them out!
That's it! My son will do this for a solid 40 minutes.

Activity Notes:

When your child is first starting to learn to read, you want to make sure to choose words that the sounds are the letter sounds that they've learned. For example, "can" says the "a" sound, and "table" says the "ay" sound- stick with the "a" sounds for beginners!
Use words that don't have "th" or "sh" or an "e" at the end (i.e. bake, thanks, shake)- your child most likely hasn't learned these rules yet and will get frustrated.
Every time they get a word right, make a huge deal out of it! Reading is hard, and we want them to have a positive experience.
