Hidden Shapes and Letters
Here is a creative way to help your child practice their shape and letter recognition using water colors! Kids love watercolors and what's also great (and super motivating for toddlers) is the element of surprise in this activity!
The activity is simple. Your child will use the water colors to reveal a variety of shapes and letters. The method is similar to how you made hidden messages and pictures show up on a dyed Easter egg--did anyone else do this as a child? All the details are below!
You will need:
Watercolor paints
Water
Paintbrush
White paper
White crayon
Instructions:
Write letters or shapes on the white piece of paper using the white crayon. They should look invisible!
Have your child wet a paintbrush in water.
Dip the wet paintbrush in the watercolor of choice.
Have them paint the watercolor onto the white paper. The watercolors should glide over the top of the hidden shapes/letters revealing them in white--with color all around them.
Continue dipping and painting until all the shapes and letters are found! Use different colors to create a vibrant masterpiece!
Activity Notes:
You can do this for all kinds of recognition practice! Use the white crayon to hide their name, numbers, pictures, etc.
Have your child shout out each shape or letter as they find them
Set a timer and see how many they can find to make it more challenging/exciting!
