These skills contribute to better coordination, balance, and strength, which are important for more complex physical activities as they grow. Large motor skills also improve children's cognitive development by enhancing their ability to focus, follow directions, and solve problems. Game 1: Follow the Lines

Place your masking tape down on the floor in different patterns. We did a straight line and a zig zag line, but you could also do curves or swirls or shapes or anything you’d like! Invite your child to walk, jump, crawl, or move like an animal while following the lines. This helps them build those large motor skills!

Game 2: Drive the Cars

Invite your child to drive their favorite vehicles on the masking tape lines. This encourages your child to crawl or scoot, which also helps build large motor muscles.

Game 3: Roll the Ball

Give your child a ball and show them how to roll it down the masking tape lines. This is a great activity for large motor skills, concentration, and hand-eye coordination!

Letter Features

We LOVE playing these large motor games with our preschoolers when we are learning about letter features because it relates directly to all of the lines we need to know about when we start creating letters! We learn about straight lines, curved lines, and slanted lines when we introduce letter features. Watch our videos below to see how we teach these to our preschoolers! And be sure to check out our YouTube channel here for even more free videos! You can also grab our free worksheets below to practice tracing lines!
