Size Sorting with Toys
Want your kids to engage in a little extra learning through play? Here's a quick, and very easy sorting game they can play using their own toys!
We love ponies and horses at our house, so consequently, we have a TON of them in all different sizes! But you don't have to use ponies to play this game. You can use cars, dinosaurs, blocks, etc. Really any of the same thing that has different sizes. Grab some paper and a writing utensil, then draw two lines to section the paper into three parts. Label the sections small, medium and big.
Now have your child sort the toys into the sections! If they can't read, indicate to them where the "small" toys go, where the "medium" ones go, and where they should place the "big" toys.
Classifying and sorting objects is super important for young children! It helps them develop crucial skills such as memory skills, attention skills, problem-solving (math) skills, executive function skills, etc.
We hope that practicing this easy activity at home will help your child develop such skills and be a little more prepared for the kindergarten classroom!
This is a fun letter review game you can play anytime, but it is especially fun to play with your Halloween costumes at Halloween time!
