Square Process Art for Preschoolers (and free online lesson!)

Learning shapes is an important part of a preschooler’s education, and we love finding hands-on ways to teach preschoolers about shapes. Today we have a fun art project that will come in handy when you are learning all about squares!

You will need:

  • Construction paper (cut into a square)

  • Child-safe scissors (like these)

  • Perfect Square by Michael Hall (find it on Amazon here!)

The Preschool Place is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Instructions:

  1. Read the book Perfect Square together.

  2. Talk about the pictures and how each square was changed to make something that was not a square.

  3. Give your child a piece of construction paper that is shaped like a square.

  4. Let them cut or tear the paper to make a different shape from their square.

  5. You can glue what they make onto another piece of construction paper if you want!
