Christmas Play Dough
Here's the thing- Christmas cookies are so fun to do, but sometimes not as fun with kids. My kids were squishing the dough I had just rolled out, licking their fingers and touching my stuff, spilling sprinkles all over the kitchen floor...you get the picture. I'm a perfectionist in the kitchen and it's one of my most challenging battles to let my kiddies help me bake- but they love it so much, so I do it. But I might've found a way to cheat the system! While you're working on your sugar cookies for the neighbors, let your kids make their own with play dough! It's a total win-win situation!
What you need:
Play dough or homemade salt dough (this one is a favorite)
A rolling pin
Christmas cookie cutters
Optional: glitter or small objects to “decorate” the cookies
Instructions:
Pull out the playdoh or make your own from scratch. Use Christmas colors to make it more festive!
Help your child roll out the dough, like you would for sugar cookies.
Let them go to town cutting out their Christmas shapes!
Activity Notes:
If you want to make less of a mess on your table, put some wax paper down and roll the dough out on top of that! Super easy clean-up.
If you want to make ornaments out of your child's cut-outs, use homemade salt dough and bake them after! Make sure to poke a hole in them for a string. My kids also had fun painting theirs after they baked!
